Tim Lyons co-authored a new 'Geology' paper published last week, showing evidence for global sulfur oxidation extending back to the beginning of the Ediacaran Period. The study also suggests rising atmospheric oxygen at this point in geologic time, simultaneous with the appearance of Ediacaran macrofauna.
