Riverside, Ca –
Leanne Hancock (UCR) was selected to attend a one-month summer course at the University of Namibia, focusing on nutrient cycling in the Benguela Upwelling Ecosystem. Students will be working from the R/V MIRABILIS and in the laboratories of the Marine Research Center in Henties Bay.
Bridget Lee (UCR) will attend a three-day workshop entitled "Antarctica’s Cenozoic Ice and Climate History: New science and new challenges of drilling in Antarctic waters" in College Station, Texas. She will examine classic Antarctic sediment cores housed in the IODP Gulf Core Repository as part of her research in understanding feedback systems of bioavailable iron.
Marzia Miletto (OHSU) and Stephanie Olson (UCR) will attend the week-long "Building a Habitable Planet" workshop in Tübingen, Germany. Discussion will focus on current methods in geomicrobiology and their applications in early Earth studies.
Stephanie Olson (UCR) will attend the Josep Comas i Solá International Astrobiology Summer School for one week in Santander, Spain. Students will focus this year on "Earth Analog Environments and the Search for Life Beyond the Earth," participating in discussions, lectures, night-sky observations and a field trip.
